Did you know that Crossroads Care Cheshire West, Wirral and Shropshire run a bathing service?

People often take getting up, washed and dressed for granted but it doesn’t take much for it to become a difficult task. Our approach is to provide a genuine helping hand rather than making people feel like they cannot care for themselves. Our staff will help with getting in and out of the bath, drying and dressing, preserving your dignity and privacy at all times, but ill be close by should you need them.

We recently received a donation from John Church, Vice Chairman of NHS Cheshire, Warrington & Wirral. John’s kind donation was 5 bathing cushion inflatable bath lifts, at a cost of £2260, John has also funded a years maintenance for the bathing cushions as well.

The inflatable bathing cushion requires no installation and weighs only 2kg, making it exceptionally portable yet highly durable. The product can be packed away into a small holdall for ease of transportation. The bath lift is designed to allow you to lie right down in the bath giving the user optimum bathing pleasure. There is also the option of leaving some air in the cushion while bathing, enabling the cushion to mould around you for additional comfort and support.

Anyone can make a referral to our bathing service. If you know of anyone who would benefit and would like to make a referral, please contact our care team on 0151 343 1960.

Chester Lions Club takes time out to raise lots of money for local charities. One charity they have chosen to support this year is Crossroads Care Cheshire West, Wirral & Shropshire. Chester Lions Club has been supporting Crossroads care since 2000 and still continues to be very generous with their donations.

Crossroads Care Cheshire West, Wirral & Shropshire care for people not for profit, they rely on funding and donations to help provide carers with respite breaks. Their staff can visit daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. This break can be essential to allow the carer to ‘re-charge their batteries’, enabling them to continue their caring role. By using their services, the carers have time to themselves – to go out, catch up with friends and family, keep up with hobbies and pastimes that they enjoy or to go to work. The CARER is free to do whatever they like or simply to have a rest, safe in the knowledge that the person they care for is in safe hands with Crossroads Care Cheshire West, Wirral & Shropshire.

In return, the club has now presented the charity with a cheque for £5000.

Crossroads Care are delighted with the generous donation “Karen Urmston Chief Executive Officer of Crossroads Care Cheshire West, Wirral & Shropshire said, “we’re really proud to have been presented with such a generous donation from the Lions Club. Crossroads Care is absolutely committed to helping carers and those they care for.”

Crossroads Care will be using the donation for their new Dementia Crisis Service in Chester. This is a crisis/ emergency response service providing enhanced support delivered in the clients home which can be up to 24 hour care including night sitting. The service will be delivered for a maximum of 6 weeks but in most cases significantly less. The service aims to provide a flexible and enhanced level of care for people with Dementia and their carers at times of crisis or strain. The service gives an opportunity to stabilise situations and allow for clearer assessment as to people’s ongoing needs. This should prevent crises developing further, possibly resulting in inappropriate hospital admissions or people going into residential care. Individuals with memory difficulties cope better within familiar environments and with the right interventions situations can be stabilised and people can be supported to remain at home.

Chester Lions Club Derek Dix presented Crossroads Care Cheshire West, Wirral & Shropshire Sheila Deputy Chief Executive with the cheque.

George asked the players if they would mind if the shirt was donated to Crossroads Care as he would like the shirt to be raffled and the money to go towards buying sensory activity equipment for one of the children’s clubs.

George raised £226.00 for our Children’s clubs and the money will be used to purchase sensory activity equipment.

We are delighted to announce that the winner of George’s raffle was Andi Cooper from Liverpool.

Andi was delighted with the news and can’t wait to have the shirt presented to her.

We would like to say a big thank you to George for taking the time to raise those much needed funds and to everyone who bought a raffle ticket.

Well Done!

“I referred my mum to Crossroads a few months ago for a Bathing service when she deteriorated after a fall, this knocked her confidence and she did not feel safe getting in and out of the bath.

She has severe arthritis in her knees which makes it difficult to walk, also being 90 yrs old means her mobility is limited. I was worried she needed extra support with personal care. I work full time and found it very worrying to leave her to get bathed in the morning.

Mum enjoys her bath and it helps to ease her aches and pains, she always seems brighter after the call and I know she looks forward to the visits.

We are very isolated where we live so the call is also social interaction for her, she was reluctant to have calls at first but the carer has but her at ease and I feel happy that in the future I may need more help and this has laid the foundations.”
