Aspergers Groups

Our Aspergers Groups, are funded by Cheshire County Council and have all been running for quite a while now and are going very well. The idea for the groups began with Chester Crossroads where groups have already been running for over 3 years. The groups meet up on a monthly basis, and provide support to 6-8 Adults aged from 18 onwards.

The groups are managed by Crossroads Care Staff, with individual group
sessions facilitated by a Speech and Language Therapist. The SALTS are
responsible for a range of tasks relating to the delivery of the groups, including
taking appropriate referrals, assessing client’s needs and the completion of
paperwork.

They lead the sessions, with support from suitably trained Support Workers from Crossroads Care. There is
an open referral process and referrals are be taken from a range of sources including; carers and their
families, local Carers groups, National Autistic Society, Health professionals, Social Care agencies. The
service is free to adults with Aspergers and their families and assistance with transport in exceptional
circumstances.

As well as group support, there is the facility to offer some one to one sessions to individuals who might wish
to take up this service. The one to one support is offered by Crossroads Care and is an opportunity to develop
social skills whether the individual is a group member or not. It could be that some individual support is
needed in order for someone to feel comfortable and ready to join the group. For more details of the one to one
supports that are available contact our care team.

The benefits of this project are not only to improve the social skills, confidence and independence of the adults
attending, but also to offer essential respite breaks to families and Carers.
